Marie Antoinette Josèphe Jeanne was the last queen consort of France and Navarre before the French Revolution. At age 14, on May 1770, she married Louis XVI and became increasingly unpopular among the people, seen as extravagant and wasteful in the use of resources, promiscuous, dissolute and licentious. On October 16th of 1793, after a swift two-day trial by the Revolutionary Tribunal she was convicted of high treason and immediately executed -beheaded by guillotine- at the Place de la Révolution.
